MAMTA SAGAR

Mamta Sagar, a poet, writer and translator from Bengaluru, India. She delves into the sounds and music innate to Kannada language and intersects her poetry performances with multimedia, multilingual and collaborative projects. Mamta has five poetry collections. Hide and Seek is a bilingual collection of her selected poems in English with the source text in Kannada (Kadalu, 2014). Chukki Chukki Chandakki (CVG, 1993) and The Swing of Desire(OUP 2004) are her published plays. Beyond Barriers(Centre for Slovenian Literature, 2011), Interversions (Poetrywala, 2018) and Elif Shfak’s The Forty Rules of Lovein Kannada (DesiPustaka); conferred withBhashabharathi TranslationAward are among her works of translation.

 

Her writings have/will be published in The Charles River Journal (Boston) AGenda (South Africa), Lyrikline (Berlin), Journal of Transcultural Writings (Leeds), South Asian Studies News Letter (IOWA), Indian Literature (India). Her recent creative work includes kShaNabindu a poetry-music collaboration with musicians Vasu Dixit & Bindumalini. Mamta has facilitated poetry workshops internationally. 

 

She currently works as a faculty of Creative Writing at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology and lives in Bengaluru.
